Forget the Kardashians. To Survive the Next Pandemic We Need to Create Great Leaders.
Anyone who has ridden on a New Jersey Transit train or looked at their community’s water quality report recently, should not be surprised by the state’s ad hoc response to the coronavirus. We often fail to provide our public administrators with the resources they need to perform their work efficiently and effectively. As a result, the government cannot rehabilitate its rail tunnels, adequately protect its water supply system, or provide enough testing and hospital beds to treat patients during a pandemic.
Former President Ronald Reagan liked to say that “government is not the solution to our problem, the government is the problem.” That is a marvelous motto, but not if you want the government to offer decent transportation services, provide potable drinking water, or protect your health.
