Professor gives conference paper with help from Honors students
On February 27, 2021, Samar Issa, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Economics & Finance, presented her research at the 47th Annual Eastern Economic Association Conference, hosted by Ramapo College of New Jersey. Dr. Issa presented a paper titled, “The Lebanese Banking Crisis: Can Islamic Banks Be an Alternative to Overleveraged Conventional Banks?” as part of a session on Foreign Exchange Constraint and Developing Economies. Two Honors students helped her with her with her research — Anthony Crincoli ’21 and Kagan Shaw ’21 — and received a thank you for their hard work. The research they helped to complete has been accepted as a book chapter, which should be published at the end of the spring.
Dr. Issa will also present a paper at next year’s American Economic Association Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. Her research for “Corporate Leverage: Business as Usual and Speculative Cycles,” was completed with the assistance of Honors students Anton Moore ’21 and Oleksiy Polishchuk ’21. Dr. Issa is very grateful for her Honors students’ help, “All of my RAs were amazing!” she said.
Anthony Crincoli, Anton Moore, and Kagan Shaw will all be presenting their own research this April as part of the Honors Program’s Senior Thesis Defenses. Click here for the full schedule of defense dates. Crincoli will also be presenting his thesis research at St. John’s University this spring (more information is forthcoming.)
