How Sport Can Contribute Towards Peace
On Monday, April 27 a roundtable titled, “How Sport Can Contribute Towards Peace and Sustainable Development from a Social and Economic Perspective” was held in The Duncan Family Sky Room. The event was presented by The Light Millennium in collaboration with the sports management program, the Saint Peter’s athletic department, the department of business administration and the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership.
The event was moderated by Professor Kevin Callahan, J.D. ’69 and panelists included Erden Eruc, solo rower; Dr. Joseph Spears, assistant professor in the department of teaching, learning and professional development at Bowie University; Rose Harper, chief executive officer of The Grass Ceiling; Carlos Garcia, executive director and senior advisor for South-South News; Joseph Quinlan, athletics director at Saint Peter’s University; Shannon Nulty, a Saint Peter’s student athlete; Tunc Ucyildiz, international surfer; Ergun Yurdadon, director of the sports management program at Saint Peter’s. The panel explored how sports are practiced around the world and can serve as a common denominator to break down walls.
