Position Papers
Position Paper Format
- Position statements must be no longer than two pages in length.
- Please use Arial, 10 point font,
- One inch margins on all sides.
- At the top of the first page, please indicate the name of the country submitting the paper as
well as the name of the committee considering it. (Please see sample position statement PDF)
- Agenda topics must be clearly labeled in separate sections.
- The 2-page paper needs to cover both topics assigned in the Background Guide.
- Please only submit papers for those committees to which your country has been assigned.
- If two delegates are representing a single country in a committee they should submit one
paper jointly.
- SPU HSMUN position papers do not require citations as they are not academic papers. Instead, these papers are intended to be policy statements coming from the foreign ministry of the assigned country. While these papers may reference UN data or past UN Resolutions, formal citations are not used– however quotation marks should still appear around direct quotes and informal acknowledgement of any sources quoted is expected.
Position Paper Submission Outline
- Submit all papers in PDF documents
- Label papers with Country followed by Committee
- i.e., China_GA1
- DO NOT ATTACH NAMES ANYWHERE IN THE PAPER
- If your school has been assigned to more than one country each set of position statements
for that country needs to be submitted separately.
- e.g., if assigned to Israel and Mexico, upload papers for all committees of Israel
in one submission and then send a different email for all committees of Mexico.
- Information on where to submit will come in an email, but it is going to be through the
website at a later date.
