HUNGER FREE CAMPUS

The Campus Kitchen at SPU

On September 11, 2014, Saint Peter’s University launched the 39th Campus Kitchen in the United States and 2nd in New Jersey.

The Campus Kitchen at Saint Peter’s University works to empower students to fight hunger in their local community by recovering unused leftover food from dining halls, cafeterias, and grocery stores and providing nutritious, balanced meals to those who are food insecure.

The Campus Kitchen began with the modest goal of recovering enough food to provide 50 meals a week. However, the amount of recovered food soon surpassed expectations, and by the completion of the first academic year, the Campus Kitchen at Saint Peter’s University had recovered over 10,000 pounds of food and delivered over 8,000 meals. To date the Campus Kitchen has recovered 144,051 pounds of food and delivered 125,458 meals.

The approximately 650 weekly meals go to numerous nonprofits and shelters as well as individual clients.  The Campus Kitchen is open to all students, as well as members of the Hudson County community
