June 12, 2002– Saint Peter’s College Offers Several Summer Education Programs for Area Youngsters
Adult, Jr. High and High School Programs Also Available
Jersey City, NJ – The Saint Peter’s College Department of Education will again run several summer programs for area adults and school children beginning with the popular 4R Program on June 27.
The 4R Program, which runs weekdays through August 2, combines morning academic work with afternoon recreation. Second-through-eighth grade students are eligible to join the program that begins at 9 a.m. with work in reading, arithmetic, writing and theatre. Elementary school teachers hired for the program teach the classes. After lunch, the students use the College’s Yanitelli Recrational Life Center’s swimming pool and gym. The cost for this program is $565 that includes testing, books and reports. An additional hot and cold lunch plan, with a nominal fee, is available.
Youngsters in second-through-eighth grades who need improvement in reading, arithmetic or writing, can take advantage of 1 1/2 hour morning programs, weekdays from July 2-August 2. The costs for each are $200 that includes the necessary materials and testing.
“We really enjoy running these summer programs,” Education Department Chair James Jacobson said. “We spend the academic year working with our students who will soon enter the teaching profession, but in the summer we go back to our roots as providers of elementary education. The 4R Program is a summer camp with time spent each morning on important skills. The children have a great time, but also gain from being with our staff of teachers each day during the summer.”
The College’s Department of Education also runs several other courses for junior high students, high schoolers and adults in reading, mathematics and English.
