New Jersey’s Fragmentation Will Be Discussed At Guarini Center Event Set for February 27

Jon Shure of NJ Policy Perspective Will Speak At Saint Peter’s College February 20, 2003– Jersey City, NJ– Jon Shure, President of the New Jersey Policy Perspective, will speak at Saint Peter’s College on Thursday, February 27 at 1 p.m. about New Jersey’s political, cultural and financial fragmentation. His discussion is part of the Guarini Center for International and Public Affairs lecture series. The free event will be held in Pope Lecture Hall. Shure, a former journalist with The Record and longtime political expert, believes the Garden State’s divisions have prevented it thriving. His talk is entitled, “The Need to Think Bigger in New Jersey: Can a State Become a Community.” Shure has been with New Jersey Policy Prospective since it’s founding in 1997. Shure previously served as Communication Director for New Jersey Governor Jim Florio and spent time as a Vice President at the Century Foundation. He is currently a Visiting Associate at the Eagleton Institute of Politics at Rutgers University. He is the third speaker in the series that will conclude on March 27 when Dr. Mario Pecheny from the Argentine branch of the Panamerican Health Organization visits the College. The Guarini Center for International and Public Affairs was established in 1994 to provide a non-partisan forum for the thoughtful discussion of public policy issues and to interest students in pursuing careers in public service. Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City and a branch campus, specializing in adult education, is located in Englewood Cliffs. Saint Peter’s also offers classes in downtown Jersey City near the waterfront financial district.
