Saint Peter’s Students Win $3000 Scholarships

Best Friends – Both International Students – Will Be Honored on April 3

March 31, 2003– Jersey City, NJ– Saint Peter’s College senior Heidi Bolick (Union City, NJ), and junior Mariana Genova (Jersey City, NJ) have each won a $3,000 accounting scholarship from the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. Along with being top students, the two are international students – Bolick originally from Ecuador and Genova from Bulgaria –who have become best friends in Jersey City.
 
Bolick interned last summer at KPMG and will work for the firm as an Accountant Assistant following May graduation.
 
“It was a wonderful experience,” Bolick, an accounting major, said of her internship.  “I learned about their audit methodology. I also went to various clients, worked as part of the audit team, and most importantly, I had the opportunity to see what Public Accounting is like.”
 
Genova, who is an accounting major with finance as a minor, hopes to work for a Big Four accounting firm following passing the CPA exam. 
 
“I’ve been putting a big amount of effort through the years and all of my work is being appreciated,” Genova said.   “I’m honored to be noticed.”
 
The scholarships are part of theNJSCPA’sannual scholarship program that awarded more than $275,000 to 80 New Jersey high school and college students. 
 
The scholarships will be presented to the students at the 43rd Annual NJSCPA Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Thursday, April 3, at the Sheraton at Woodbridge Place, Iselin.
 
Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City and a branch campus, specializing in adult education, is located in Englewood Cliffs.
