Bronx Mother of Three Promotes Peace Despite Loss of Her Brother in 9/11 Attack Jersey City, NJ– October 20, 2003– Colleen Kelly, a Bronx resident and mother of three, will speak at Saint Peter’s College on Thursday, October 23 at 6 p.m. in the Royal Irving Theater on the College’s Jersey City campus. Kelly, after losing her brother William in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001 formed the September 11th Families for a Peaceful Tomorrow organization with other victim’s family members. Kelly will speak about the organization and its quest for world peace and how she has coped with the loss of her brother. Kelly will be joined at the event by noted singer/songwriter Carol Lester who will perform her song “A Question of the Ages” about the events of 9/11. Their appearance is part of day-long effort to promote world peace on campus through poetry, prayer, music and discussion. The event is sponsored by the College’s Social Justice Program, Campus Ministry, and Pax Christi, along with the Departments of Theology and Political Science. Kelly is a nurse practitioner who co-founded the Ita Ford Health Clinic that offers free medical service to the poor in Harlem. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Scranton and followed with a nurse practitioner’s degree from Columbia University. Kelly will sell copies of September 11th Families for a Peaceful Tomorrow: Turning Our Grief Into Actions Of Peace, a 250-page book that highlights the work being done by the organization.
