Jersey City, NJ (November 14, 2003) — Dr. Fawaz Gerges, the Middle East analyst for ABC News, will speak at Saint Peter’s College on Wednesday, November 19 at 11 a.m. in Pope Lecture Hall. The event is part of the College’s Guarini Center for Governmental Affairs lecture series. It is free and open to the public. Gerges, who is a professor of International Affairs and Middle Eastern Studies at Sarah Lawrence College, is a consultant and regular commentator for ABC News. He has appeared on many television and radio networks throughout the world, including CNN, CBS, NPR, and the BBC. He has authored several books on United States policies and actions in the Middle East. His list of books includes The Superpowers and the Middle East: Regional and International Politics, 1955-1967 (1994), The Clinton Administration’s Approach toward Islamist Movements (1999), America and Political Islam: Clash of Cultures or Clash of Interests? (1999) and The Islamists and the West: Ideology vs. Pragmatism (2002). He has also written numerous articles and essays on the Middle East for such prestigious publications as The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times. Dr. Gerges attended the London School of Economics and Oxford University and later taught at Oxford and Harvard, along with serving as a research fellow at Princeton University.
