Jersey City, NJ — Dr. James A. Pegolotti, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry and former Academic Dean at Saint Peter’s College, returns to campus on Monday, April 26 at Noon in Pope Lecture Hall to discuss his book, Deems Taylor; A Biography. The discussion will be followed by a book signing and reception at 2:30 p.m. in the Emeritus Room. Deems Taylor was best known in the 1920-1940 era as the golden-voiced intermission commentator for the New York Philharmonic radio broadcasts and as the onscreen host of Walt Disney’s animated classic, Fantasia, Taylor’s career also included writing two operas performed to great success by the Metropolitan Opera Company, serving as the music critic for the New York World newspaper, the president of the American Society of Composers and Performers (ASCAP) and as editor of Musical America, a prestigious music journal. Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City and a branch campus, specializing in adult education, is located in Englewood Cliffs. Saint Peter’s also offers classes in downtown Jersey City near the waterfront financial district and in South Amboy.
