Senior Kevin Kearns of Bayonne has won a J. William Fulbright Scholarship and will spend the next academic year studying at the University of Vienna. He will also work as a teaching assistant, giving instruction in English at a nearby high school as yet unnamed. Kearns participated in the extremely competitive selection process and was selected by the William J. Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. He will receive a monthly stipend of 1,000 Euros along with a grant covering his round travel expenses to Austria. “Kevin is a fine example of the caliber of student we have here at Saint Peter’s,” said Dr. Peter Costello, Director, Graduate Studies and Special Scholarships. “He has done an outstanding job of making our resources work for him, and he has been unflagging in his efforts to become a political scientist. Kevin’s research on the accession of the Eastern European states into the EU is first-rate, and the members of the faculty in the political science department all commend him on his intelligence, honesty, and integrity.” A graduate of Saint Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, Kevin majored in political science as an undergraduate and spent his junior year studying abroad at the University of Trier in Germany. His is currently working in a summer internship with NW Financial (Jersey City), researching water usage patterns across a number of New Jersey municipalities.
