Jersey City, NJ (February 11, 2005) – Saint Peter’s College will honor four individuals at its 14 th Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City on Thursday, April 7, 2005. “We are proud to honor these outstanding members of the Saint Peter’s College family for their professional achievements and their service to the College and their local communities,” said College President James N. Loughran, S.J. “Each honoree has put the Ignatian ideal of service for others into action in many different ways.” Thomas W. Duncan ’65 will receive the Professional Achievement Award. He earned his B.S. in Economics and an M.B.A. from Harvard University Graduate School of Business in 1969. He joined Frontier Capital Management Company as a partner and was named President in 1990. The Jersey City native and Boston resident serves on the College’s Board of Trustees.
John B. Wilson ’70 is the recipient of the Service to Community Award. He has served as the President of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in New Jersey and the Independent College Fund of New Jersey since 1990. Wilson is a former Vice President of Development at the College and also held a variety of other posts during his tenure, including the Director of Public Relations and Director of Athletics. Wilson received his M.B.A. from Rutgers Graduate School of management and a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. Carmel Galasso ’79 will receive the Loyalty to Alma Mater Award.
A Jersey City native, Galasso earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a Master of Arts in Adult Christian Community Development from Regis University in Colorado. She has served as the Program Coordinator of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark Hudson County Parish Access Center in Jersey City since 1996. Galasso was the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry at the College for a decade and is a member of the College Alumni Board. Joseph Kelly, S.J., is the recipient of the Honorary Alumnus Award. Fr. Kelly served as chaplain at Saint Peter’s for twenty years and then worked in the Development Office. He joined the Society of Jesus in 1949 and earned his undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature from the University College in Dublin. He is a Parochial Vicar at Saint Malachy’s Church (The Actors’ Chapel) in Manhattan.
Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City.
