Assistance for Students Affected by Hurricane Katrina Students scheduled to attend Loyola New Orleans or other institutions affected by Hurricane Katrina this fall may contact Saint Peter’s College for admission to fall classes while recovery efforts continue in the affected areas. “The network of Jesuit colleges and universities is first and foremost a family,” said Virginia Bender, Vice President for Enrollment. “The entire Saint Peter’s College community extends our thoughts and prayers to all those impacted by this disaster.
We are committed to assisting students who were preparing to begin or to continue their academic careers at schools in the affected region by enrolling them in classes at Saint Peter’s for the fall semester.” Students with questions about enrollment procedures and other arrangements should contact Joe Giglio, Director of Admission, at 1-888-SPC-9933. College Community Saint Peter’s College students and the entire College community, in collaboration with various relief agencies, will conduct fundraising efforts to assist those affected by Hurricane Katrina. Anyone wishing to donate may write a check payable to SPC Service Fund with the notation “Hurricane Katrina Relief” in the memo line.
Proceeds from the men’s football home opener were donated to the relief effort. Checks may be mailed to Saint Peter’s College, Office for Community Service, 2641 Kennedy Blvd., Jersey City, NJ, 07306. The Office for Community Service is also coordinating fundraising efforts with student groups. The Office of Campus Ministry will hold a prayer service for those impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Community Service and Campus Ministry are also collecting select food items in collaboration with the Community Food Bank.
Individuals may drop canned food items such as chili, stew, pasta and peanut butter, in addition to disposable diapers, at bins located outside the offices. Clothes are not needed at this time.
