Jersey City (December 2, 2005) — The Saint Peter’s College Athletics Department and its Men’s Basketball team will honor George Jefferson prior to the Peacocks home opener against Monmouth on December 6. The tip-off is scheduled for 7pm at the Yanitelli Center. The ceremony will take place at approximately 6:40 pm.
Jefferson passed away on June 21, 2005. He had earned his degree from the College. Saint Peter’s College Men’s Basketball Coach Bob Leckie, along with his team and the Athletics Department, will present George’s mom with his diploma during the pregame ceremony.
There will also be a moment of silence for the Peacocks’ fallen teammate. The Saint Peter’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams have dedicated their seasons to George. The Peacocks are wearing a patch on their uniform with George’s #23. Members of both teams are wearing sneakers with George’s number sewn into them.
