Jersey City – Keith Pecklers ‘80, S.J., will deliver the Spring 2007 John Tagliabue Lecture on Thursday, February 1 at 3:30 p.m. Father Pecklers will discuss Catholic Liturgy in the 21st Century and the Mission of the Church. The talk is part of the College’s ongoing Jesuit and Catholic Identity Lecture Series.

Keith Pecklers ‘80, S.J., discussed Catholic Liturgy in the 21st Century and the Mission of the Church in the second address of the John Tagliabue Lecture Series on Thursday, February 1.

Father Pecklers holds the Gasson Chair in Theology at Boston College for the 2006-2007 academic year. The Jersey City native has lived and worked in Rome since 1992 as the Professor of Liturgy at the Pontifical Gregorian University and Professor of Liturgical History at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute of Sant’Anselmo. He is widely recognized as one of the foremost authorities on Catholic liturgy and has lectured extensively on this topic on four continents. Father Pecklers has published numerous books and articles. His most recent work, Worship, won the Catholic Press Association’s First Place Book Award in the liturgy category.
In addition to his academic assignments, Father Pecklers is a frequent commentator on Vatican Affairs for ABC News. He provided background and context for television viewers in the aftermath of Pope John Paul II’s death and the election of his successor, Pope Benedict XVI.
The lecture is free and open to the general public. It will take place in the McIntyre Room in Dinneen Hall. Journalist Paula Butturini delivered the first address in the John Tagliabue Lecture Series in the fall. She discussed the fall of communism in Eastern Europe. John Tagliabue ’67 is a journalist with The New York Times. The series brings noted journalists and authors to the Saint Peter’s College campus to discuss their work, the media and current issues and trends in their respective fields.
Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City. The College has a branch campus for adults in Englewood Cliffs, NJ and also offers courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.
