Baseball Coach Derek England Named MAAC Coach of the Year
Jersey City – Saint Peter’s College head baseball coach Derek England was named the Anaconda Sports MAAC Coach of the Year at the annual MAAC Championships Awards Banquet. England led the Peacocks to a 23-29 overall record and 13-13 mark in the MAAC, missing the MAAC Tournament by percentage points. It was a 10-game turnaround in MAAC play and the Peacocks won 13 more games overall from last season.
Kevin Kallert was named First Team All-MAAC after finishing the season with a team leading .376 average, 35 runs, eight doubles, two triples, six homers and 29 RBI. Dennis Alexander and Santo Maertz were named to the All-MAAC Second Team. Alexander hit .337 as the Peacocks second baseman with 10 doubles, 15 RBI and a .979 fielding percentage. Maertz was the Peacocks DH and a starting pitcher. At the plate, he hit .284 with two homers and 24 RBI. On the mound he was 4-2 with a 3.59 ERA and 45 strikeouts.
