Saint Peter’s Partners with Christ the King Prep

Jersey City – Saint Peter’s College has teamed up with Christ the King Preparatory School in Newark, NJ, for a yearlong program that will assist high school students to learn professional behavior by working in an office within an academic environment.

Beginning September 4, Saint Peter’s will hire four students from Christ the King to perform clerical work throughout the school year. Each student will work a half day in both the College’s Department of Enrollment Services and Department of Finance and Business. The students’ work schedule will rotate daily, so that one student at a time will be working a full day on campus.

Steven Smith, Executive Director of Enrollment Services/Registrar for Saint Peter’s and facilitator for the program, said, “Saint Peter’s is pleased to be partnering with Christ the King.  We look forward to guiding these four students in their educational and work experiences.”

Prior to coming to Saint Peter’s, the students enrolled in a three-week course that taught them office etiquette, as well as office skills such as filing and typing.  The partnership is designed so that students will be better qualified for college and a career.

The purpose of the program is so the students may finance the majority of the cost of their education at Christ the King, and gain real world job experience, grow in self-confidence, and understand the relevance of their secondary education.

Christ the King Preparatory School in Newark, NJ, is part of The Cristo Rey Network®, a national association of high schools that provides quality, Catholic, college preparatory education to urban young people who live in communities with limited educational options.
