The administration at Saint Peter’s College has long been aware of the environmental threats our nation faces and has worked hard to do its part to protect the environment. To that end, the Guarini Center for Governmental Affairs at Saint Peter’s College invited Max Schulz, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute’s Center for Energy Policy and the Environment, to the Roy Irving Theatre on the Jersey City campus February 11, 2009, to present his understanding of the issues that affect energy and environmental policy.
When choosing a topic, the Guarini Center’s director, Professor Alky Danikas, said he “looks at topics of interest—social, political and economic—then looks for speakers with diverging views of the subject matter.”
A prolific writer, Schulz has written numerous opinion pieces and articles on the topic for such prominent publications as The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post, and the Washington Post. He has also opined about the subject on several national radio and television programs.
In Energy & the Environment: Myths & Facts, Schulz expounded on the practical application of free-market principles in energy debates at the international, federal and state levels, with a particular examination of the intersection of energy, the economy and the environment.
Established in 1994 by former New Jersey Congressman Frank J. Guarini, the Guarini Center hosts lectures and programs throughout the academic year to raise awareness of local, domestic and international issues and challenges.
A central part of the Guarini Center’s mission is to promote critical thinking and debate among the next generation of leaders. Danikas’ goal, he said, is to have a balanced discussion. For that reason, Danikas is researching other candidates who can present an opposing view of the energy and environmental policy issue later in the semester.
The events sponsored by the Guarini Center are free of charge and open to members of the public.
