WSPC Radio Wins Awards at Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference

Jersey City, N.J. – WSPC Radio, the Saint Peter’s College internet radio station, received two awards on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at the 70th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Radio and Webcasting Conference in New York City. WSPC Radio merited the highest level of recognition with the Golden Mic Award for broadcast excellence, which is given for professional standards for radio content and operations. Of the 27 awards presented in categories such as news, music shows and sports, WSPC Radio also received the Best Talk Program award. One thousand IBS member radio stations competed for the IBS awards.

"The WSPC Radio student staff is passionate about radio and its possibilities. In a world of new technologies and media platforms, radio is reinventing itself for a new generation of listeners,” said Joseph J. Lamachia, adjunct professor and general manager of WSPC Radio-TV. “Winning two awards at the IBS Conference validated all of the hard work expended by my students, and I’m extremely proud of them."

The conference featured approximately 250 speakers and moderators in more than 100 workshops and panel sessions, focusing on topics such as programming, production, music, community radio and social networking, among many others. Lamachia moderated panels on broadcast production, broadcast writing, commercials and advertising, as well as a voice-over workshop session.

Additionally, the sessions highlighted broadcasting professionals such as Dr. Joy Browne and Joey Reynolds of WOR Radio, radio guru and consultant Valerie Geller, WCBS-FM’s Broadway Bill Lee, A&E’s Lynn Hoffman, and WPLJ’s Race Taylor.
