Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s College today announced it is now offering a new sports management minor, which includes a variety of courses in management and marketing as well as specialty courses in sports management. The sports management minor will be offered through the business administration department and the health and physical education program and will provide students with the ability to rise above the competition in this growing industry.
“Job growth in the sports, recreation and fitness industries are expected to grow in the coming years and individuals pursuing a career in sports management will find that their skills are in demand in a variety of areas,” said Marylou Yam, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Saint Peter’s College has developed the Sports Management Minor to expand our students’ career options upon graduation and give them a solid academic and practical foundation in this highly competitive industry.”
The sports management minor will equip students with the knowledge and skills possessed by successful sports managers by teaching students to apply financial, management and business theories to the field of sports management. Students will also be able to analyze legal and ethical issues and examine the competencies required to manage and operate organizations within the sports industry.
Specialty sports management courses will cover subjects such as contract negotiation, collective bargaining, sports marketing, advertising, sponsorship strategies, and facility and event management. Students graduating with a minor in sports management will be equipped for entry-level positions in sports marketing and promotions, facility planning and management, and public relations.
The Sports Management Minor courses will begin January 18. For more information about enrollment, course schedule and program guidelines, please visit www.spc.edu or contact Richard Petriello, Ph.D. at rpetriello@spc.edu.
