Many phones belonging to alumni and friends of Saint Peter’s College rang on June 1. On the line were representatives from the Office of Advancement and External Affairs, who diligently dialed numbers to inform individuals about “Let’s Get it Done, June 1,” a campaign designed to acquire 140 donors on June 1, 2012 in honor of the College’s 140th anniversary. Supporters truly answered the call. Friday’s 24-hour long, first-ever historic event exceeded original targets, with a final count of 382 donors and $90,939 raised for the College.
“We knew our alumni would step up,” said Saint Peter’s College Vice President for Advancement and External Affairs Michael A. Fazio. “That’s how they are. But this exceeded our expectations.”
He added, “Something special is happening at the College. The results of this ‘donor bomb,’ as we called it, is proof that our alumni are taking notice.”
In addition to contributors giving generously over the phone, gifts were also collected from an online site dedicated to the “Let’s Get it Done, June 1” effort, as well as from College employees throughout the campus community. Contributions of any amount were accepted, with postcards and emails distributed to potential donors before the event announcing that gifts of all sizes can go a long way in providing scholarship funds, textbooks, upgraded software for computer labs throughout campus, and even gas to transport students for a Global Outreach service trip. Gifts – both large and small – were acquired, including $2 from a recent grad who couldn’t contribute much but still wanted to support her alma mater, and a generous $10,000 gift from a married alumni couple.
“I am overwhelmed by the response of Saint Peter’s alumni and friends who participated in ‘Let’s Get It Done, June 1,’” said Jamie M. Bredehoft, director of annual giving at Saint Peter’s College, who helped to coordinate the event. “Their support and generosity is inspiring, and demonstrates that they believe in the College and its mission.”
Despite the success of this remarkable “donor bomb,” the College still needs your help. By making a tax deductible gift before June 30, 2012 – the end of the College’s fiscal year – you can ensure that students will continue to have access to the quality, memorable and character building experiences provided by a Jesuit education.
