Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s University today announced the establishment of the Legacy Grant Program, designed to honor the children and grandchildren of all Saint Peter’s alumni. Any applicant who has a parent or grandparent who graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program at Saint Peter’s will be eligible for a grant valued at up to $60,000. Grants are available for incoming students in the 2013-2014 academic year.
“The University’s largest constituency is our more than 30,000 alumni and it is this group that truly defines who we are today,” said Michael A. Fazio, vice president for advancement and external affairs at Saint Peter’s University. “We are often asking our alums to support us as we move into the future. The Legacy Grant Program is one way for the University to say thank you by making a Saint Peter’s education even more accessible to their kids and grandkids.”
Each applicant will be eligible for an award worth $15,000 per academic year and the grant is renewable for up to four consecutive years as long as the student remains in good academic standing. The criteria for admission remains the same for a legacy applicant and the award would be contingent on the student meeting all requirements and policies for receiving University aid. The award is also available for transfer students.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the Legacy Grant without limitations,” said Jeffrey Handler, vice president for enrollment and marketing at Saint Peter’s University. “There isn’t a set number of awards that will be bestowed each year and we are dedicated to making the application process as straightforward and simple as possible.”
The number of legacy students on campus varies from year to year. “We’ve had as many as 60 children of alumni enrolled in previous years,” said Handler. “We think that number ought to grow and this program, we believe, will cause alumni and their children to take a closer look at us.”
