Jersey City, N.J. – April 30, 2013 – Saint Peter’s University and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center School of Radiography signed an articulation agreement on April 18, which combines coursework at Saint Peter’s University and the Englewood School of Radiography. Through this program, students will attend Saint Peter’s University for one year and then complete two years of study at the Englewood School of Radiography. Upon the successful completion of three years of study, students will earn their associate degree of applied science in health science from Saint Peter’s University as well as a diploma from the Englewood School of Radiography.
“This agreement is a strong example of how Saint Peter’s University continues to seek out opportunities to develop new programs and initiatives that not only build well-rounded students, but provide them with the necessary skills to succeed in today’s job market,” said Marylou Yam, Ph.D., R.N., provost and vice president of academic affairs at Saint Peter’s University. “Through the curriculum at Saint Peter’s, students will be introduced to the necessary prerequisites such as anatomy and physiology as well as general education courses. This will be followed by academic and clinical training, including hands-on experience in radiography at the Englewood School of Radiography.”
Englewood Hospital and Medical Center’s School of Radiography is located in Englewood, N.J. and is ranked among the best in the region. The program offers a challenging academic curriculum in conjunction with clinical training in the operation of state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging equipment. Working directly with radiologists and technologists in a hospital setting, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience throughout the entire training period.
Prior to completion of the program, students will apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) exam, which is required to work in the state of New Jersey as a radiographer. A radiographer assists the radiologist, a certified physician in diagnostic imaging and treatment, and other physicians in the operation of imaging equipment, as well as positioning the patients for various types of procedures. Their role also extends to the care and comfort of the patient during the visit.
“We are all delighted to have this articulation agreement with Saint Peter’s in place,” said Pamela Woodward, M.S., R.T. (R), educational coordinator at the Englewood Hospital and Medical Center School of Radiography. “Together, we can graduate students who are academically well-rounded by the fine professors at Saint Peter’s and possess a high degree of skill in the field of medical radiography from the Englewood School of Radiography.”
The articulation agreement was signed by representatives of Saint Peter’s University, including Yam and Velda Goldberg, Ph.D., dean of the College of Arts and Sciences/School of Business Administration and Woodward and Helene Wolk, vice president of operations at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center School of Radiography.
