Jersey City, N.J. – September 10, 2013 – Saint Peter’s University today announced that the enrollment for the Class of 2017 is the largest the University has seen in 15 years, with more than 600 freshmen currently enrolled for the fall 2013 semester. In addition to a large freshman class, Saint Peter’s is welcoming more than 100 transfer students this semester and is experiencing increased numbers in housing with more than 750 students in residence.
“Extensive research and surveys indicated that colleges would expect lower enrollment in this academic year and we are incredibly proud that Saint Peter’s is moving in a positive direction against this downward trend,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “While there is not a singular reason behind this growth, there are a number of factors that have contributed to the increase such as greater innovation in academic programs, University status, the opening of the Mac Mahon Student Center, new enrollment strategies and the effective and efficient efforts of our financial aid team.”
In March 2012 Saint Peter’s College became Saint Peter’s University, which has expanded market recognition for the University as a comprehensive institution offering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. In March 2013 the Mac Mahon Student Center opened its doors, virtually transforming the University’s Jersey City campus. The nearly 90,000-square-foot, six-story facility now serves as a home for dining, fitness, learning and socializing. Saint Peter’s also offers scholarships and grants that make the University one of the most affordable private colleges and universities in the region. Additionally, the University offers a transfer program that enables students to make a smooth transition from their current college.
“Beyond our new student enrollment growth, we are also experiencing success in retaining students and we are providing effective support to graduate them as well,” said Dr. Cornacchia.
