The sounds of clinking wine glasses and the chatter of conversation filled Amanda’s Restaurant in Hoboken on June 15 as alumni and friends gathered for one shared reason: to support St. Aedan’s: The Saint Peter’s University Church and Schola, the University’s liturgical choral group.
That evening, more than 90 people attended the annual wine and dinner pairing fundraiser at Amanda’s, which is owned by Eugene Flinn ’80 and his wife, Joyce Flinn. Between their shared affinity for the University and the impact Saint Peter’s has and continues to make on Flinn, the couple has made it a tradition for the event to be held at their restaurant each year.
“We are thrilled that our annual event at Amanda’s continues to be a great success with an excellent turnout of alumni and friends,” said Gloria Mercurio, executive director of alumni engagement. “We are grateful for the generosity of our hosts, Eugene and Joyce Flinn.”
Attendees enjoyed five-course dinner and wine pairing in addition to a silent auction. Folks were then treated to a rendition of “Hallelujah” by Director of Liturgical Music Joseph Legaspi and three members of Schola: Katherine Angeles ’17, Mary Zeoli ’15 and Amanda DiMauro ’15. Mike Milano ’74, ’91 and Carmel Galasso ’79 ended the night with the tradition of singing “Io Pavo,” the University’s fight song.
By the end of the night, more than $17,000 was raised — all of which will go toward programming and operating costs for St. Aedan’s: The Saint Peter’s University Church in addition to supporting Schola.
“This event gives everyone an opportunity to enjoy a delightful evening at a fine restaurant while supporting Saint Peter’s mission and identity,” added Mercurio.
