Jersey City, N.J. – July 26, 2016 – Saint Peter’s University today announced that Scott Stoddart, Ph.D., has been appointed to the position of dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Stoddart most recently served as an associate professor of English and cinema at John Jay College, CUNY, where he also served as associate provost and dean of the undergraduate college.
“For this position we sought a collaborative leader who would promote a culture of acceptance and one who would effectively represent the College of Arts and Sciences within the University and beyond,” said Gerard O’Sullivan, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs at Saint Peter’s University. “We found that and more in Dr. Stoddart. We believe he will bring great energy and vision to this role.”
In this position, Dr. Stoddart will be responsible for maintaining and improving the quality and effectiveness of the academic programs within the College of Arts and Sciences. He will lead chairs, directors and 60 faculty members in 15 departments including the honors program. He will work with the Faculty Senate Curriculum Committee, department chairs and the provost to develop new and evaluate exisiting curricula of instruction within the College at the graduate and undergraduate level with a focus on innovative academic programming, including programs in wholly online and blended formats.
Prior to his appointment at John Jay College, Dr. Stoddart served as the dean of the School of Liberal Arts at the Fashion Institute of Technology, SUNY; provost at Manhattanville College; and as associate professor of liberal arts at Nova Southeastern University, where he instructed courses in American literature, cinema studies and musical theater history. Dr. Stoddart has published on fiction literature, musical plays and films. He has also published two books titled, Analyzing Mad Men: Critical Essays on the Television Series and The 1980s: American Popular Culture through History and a collection titled, The New Western: Critical Essays on the Genre Since 9/11.
