Jersey City, N.J. – September 19, 2023 – Saint Peter’s University today announced that Milton Javier Bravo, Ph.D. ’07, vice president for mission and identity for Loyola University Maryland, will provide the keynote address for the 2023 Saint Peter’s Michaelmas Convocation on Wednesday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aedan’s: The Saint Peter’s University Church.
“The selection of Dr. Bravo for this year’s Michaelmas Convocation is particularly significant as Saint Peter’s is commemorating its 25th anniversary as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI),” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “His personal journey and professional accomplishments reflect the profound impact of HSIs, emphasizing the importance of higher education accessibility for all.”
A native of Ecuador, Dr. Bravo immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 10, becoming the first in his family to attend college in the U.S. During his time at Saint Peter’s, he experienced a sense of belonging, inclusivity and the transformative power of a Jesuit education. He has since dedicated his career to promoting Catholic social teaching and fostering diversity and inclusions within higher education institutions.
Dr. Bravo became the vice president for mission and identity for Loyola University Maryland on July 1. He’d previously served as vice president for mission, values and inclusion at Edgewood College, a Dominican Catholic institution in Madison, Wis. There, he created intentional partnerships that increased the diversity of the student population.
Michaelmas is an annual ceremony that recognizes Saint Peter’s students for outstanding academic achievement in all areas, including the sciences, humanities, education, nursing and business. Additionally, 10 seniors are inducted into the oldest and most distinguished honors society at Saint Peter’s, the Most Noble Order of the Peacock (MNOP), for attaining the highest scholastic average in all courses throughout their first three years at the University. This year’s inductees include Amarilys Crisostomo de la Cruz, Francisco Cruz, Emily Delgado, Yanique Pridgen, Matthew Prothero, Helberth Quisbert, Arvind Rambahal, Phillip Reguinho, Xochilt Turijan and Michael Uhler.
