The Legend of KeeKee Grows: Now Nation’s Number One Scorer

Sophomore men’s basketball player Keydren Clark, known as KeeKee, leads the nation in scoring with 27.1 points a game. He took the lead after scoring 31 points in Saturday’s win over Loyola where he knocked down a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference record nine three-pointers. KeeKee, 5-9, is attempting to become the smallest player in 46 years to lead the nation in scoring. Murray Wier, 5-8, scored 22.7 ppg. for Iowain 1947-48. Even if KeeKee does not win the scoring race, he will be in rare company. Since 1980 only three players shorter than six-feet have finished in the top 5 in scoring nationally. If KeeKee accomplishes the feat he will be the second smallest on the list behind 5-5 Earl Boykins of Eastern Michigan who now plays for the NBA’sDenver Nuggets. “I think KeeKee is the most exciting player to hit Jersey City since Calvin Murphy visited with his Niagara team in 1968 when he got 50 points against us,” longtime Saint Peter’s basketball observer and former Sports Information Director Fred Cranwell said. “KeeKee has captivated this campus like no one else. Everyone can relate to him because of his size and that makes him fun to root for. One thing is for certain, when KeeKee is in the game, you better not be on line to get a soda, or for that matter, I wouldn’t blink either!”
