SPEECH TARGETED TO JERSEYCITY’S THRIVING FILIPINO COMMUNITY Jersey City, NJ – Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will become the first Head of State to ever visit Saint Peter’s College when she speaks in the Victor R. Yanitelli Center on Friday, September 26 at 5 p.m. Several prominent New Jersey elected officials are scheduled to attend including Governor James McGreevey and Jersey City Mayor Glenn Cunningham. President Arroyo will speak to members of the American Filipino community about issues in the Philippines and offer encouragement towards their success in the United States. Jersey City has the largest concentration of Filipinos in New Jersey, the state where 40% of Filipinos in theNortheast U.S. live. This will mark her first visit to Jersey City. President Arroyo has strong ties to U.S. Jesuit Colleges and Universities. She spent two years as an undergraduate classmate of former United States President Bill Clinton at Georgetown University before earning her undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in the Phillipines.
