Hackensack, NJ – John P. Ferguson, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC), has earned the distinction of being selected as one of the 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine. Ferguson, who is a graduate of Saint Peter’s College class of 1970, was the highest-ranked hospital or healthcare CEO.
Readers submitted more than 14,600 nominations and 50,000 votes, placing Ferguson in the twelfth spot on the elite list. “I am humbled to be included on such an outstanding and noteworthy list of healthcare professionals, and others who influence our industry and the way healthcare is delivered in America,” said Mr. Ferguson.
Mr. Ferguson has been with HUMC since 1981 and has served as its president and CEO since 1986. During his tenure, the then-Hackensack Medical Center grew into a major university-affiliated medical center. It is designated as a Level II Trauma Center, providing tertiary and regional services for northern New Jersey and the Tri-State area.
Mr. Ferguson received his bachelor’s degree in 1970 from Saint Peter’s College and an MBA from George Washington University.
Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs.
