Jersey City – The Saint Peter’s College Department of Athletics will induct 10 individuals and two teams into its Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday, December 13, 2008, as part of Saint Peter’s Hall of Fame Day. The induction will take place on the College’s Jersey City campus, following the doubleheader basketball games between Saint Peter’s College and Seton Hall University at the Yanitelli Center.
The Hall of Fame Class will be honored during halftime of the men’s basketball game. This year’s inductees include: Jon Ambrose ’03 and Joe Spano ’70, both for excellence in football; Rinaldo Chambers ’04, for excellence in men’s soccer; Kim Jones-Truzzolino ’99 and Marsha Kelley ’03, both for excellence in softball; and Valentina Zaharieva ’01, for excellence in volleyball.
Kevin Boyle ’86 will receive a Special Achievement Award for his success in coaching boy’s basketball at St. Patrick High School in Elizabeth, N.J. Honorary inductees include Ron DeRogatis, the College’s softball coach from 1998 to 2003, and Tim Camp, who served as the assistant director of athletics for sports information at Saint Peter’s for 16 years. Additionally, Bill Stein will receive a Special Service Award for his dedication to the College as the director of athletics from 1982 to 2008.
The two teams that will be inducted into the Hall of Fame include: Saint Peter’s 1994 baseball team, which under Head Coach Bruce Sabbatini won the first MAAC Baseball Championship; and Saint Peter’s 2001 softball team, which under Head Coach Ron DeRogatis won the first MAAC Softball Championship.
The day’s events begin at 10:30 a.m. when Saint Peter’s alumni will have the opportunity to meet recently appointed Director of Athletics Pat Elliott in the Roy Irving Theatre on Saint Peter’s campus. After that, everyone will head over to the Yanitelli Center to watch the women’s basketball team face Seton Hall at 12:00 p.m. Tip-off for the men’s basketball game will be at 2:00 p.m. For advance game ticket sales and further information, call 201-761-7304.
