Jersey City, NJ – Saint Peter’s College President Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., was among eleven individuals to receive a 2009 Annual Community Service Award from the Rotary Club of Jersey City-Daybreak. Chosen for strengthening Jersey City and creating a better community, Dr. Cornacchia received the award on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the organization’s Fifth Annual Dinner Community Service Awards.
Dr. Cornacchia accepted the award on behalf of Saint Peter’s College, as well as its students. “Each year, our students contribute more than 16,000 hour of community service to Jersey City and Hudson County,” noted Dr. Cornacchia.

Raju Patel, president of the Asian American Association; Lenora Brown, executive assistant to the Mayor of Jersey City, Jerramiah T. Healy; William DeRosa, president of the Jersey City Board of Education Schools; Father Michael Santoro, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. John the Baptist R.C. Churches; Sallie Porter, president and CEO of Hudson Cradle; Gena Haranis, senior vice president, Janus Solutions; Sam Pesin, president of Liberty State Park; Joseph Napolitano, Sr., executive director of the Pershing Field Babe Ruth League, Inc.; Jaqueline Connors, secretary of the Board of Trustees of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hudson County; and Suzanne Wilkins, student.
The winner of the 2009 Good Neighbor Institution Award was presented to Jersey City Medical Center/Wilzig Hospital.
