Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s College has scheduled six of the region’s top business leaders and entrepreneurs for its Executives-in-Residence program, which will run over the course of six Wednesdays from September 23 to October 28, 2009, and take place at various locations in the New York metropolitan area, including the College’s Jersey City campus. The senior business executives will discuss emerging-risk strategies and then network with Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) candidates, as well as with members of the College community and invited guests.
Each executive will address risk topics that affect the global business marketplace, including: important risks facing modern organizations; governance and regulatory risks; global warming and environmental issues; internal exposures posed by culture, leadership gaps and management practices; and external risks on the horizon.

William T. Monahan – September 23, 2009
Bill Monahan was the CEO of Imation Corp, the largest manufacturer of data storage products worldwide for eight years, following its spin off from 3M to independent public company status. He began his career with 3M in New York City in sales and later moved to 3M headquarters in Minnesota. Mr. Monahan ran numerous businesses for 3M for more than 25 years prior to Imation, including Data Storage in Europe, International, and worldwide; he ran 3M’s business in Italy and their Electronics, Telecom, and Visual Group in Austin, TX. He is presently on four public boards in Minnesota, Pentair Corporation, Hutchinson Technology, Mosaic Corporation and Solutia. He is also a board member for the private company Oakleaf Waste Management. Mr. Monahan received his B.S. in economics from Saint Peter’s College in 1969 and his M.B.A. from Rutgers University.
Shawn M. Doherty – September 30, 2009
Mr. Doherty has more than 24 years of experience in the securities lending and financial services industry. Currently the managing director and head of Central Bank Group – Americas for HSBC Securities (USA) Inc., he joined HSBC in December 2000, and created a dedicated securities lending division in New York. Previously, Mr. Doherty founded the securities lending desk at Wall Street Portfolio Advisors, a division of Bank of New York. Additionally, he led a very successful lending team at Swiss Bank Corporation from its inception until July 1998. Mr. Doherty earned his B.S. in marketing from Saint Peter’s College in 1985 and holds an M.B.A. in finance from Fordham University.
Robert F. Walker – October 7, 2009
Mr. Walker currently serves as the area executive vice president for Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. of New York, Inc., one of the world’s largest insurance brokerage and risk management services firms. He is responsible for assuring that all resources available through Gallagher’s global network provide clients with the highest level of service possible. Additionally, Mr. Walker serves as a principal in Gallagher’s Global Risk Management Practice, as well as the M&A Niche. He began his insurance career with the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company, and has held various senior management positions with Jardines and Willis. He earned his B.S. in marketing management from Saint Peter’s College in 1970, and holds a certificate in business advanced risk management sciences from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Mary K. Whelan – October 14, 2009
Since April 2002, Ms. Whelan has served as a director of BioElectronics, where she previously served as the vice president of marketing and secretary of the company. Additionally, Ms. Whelan is the founder and President of eMarkets Group, which is the global distributor for the veterinary market for BioElectronics products. She served as an executive vice president at mPhase Technologies and has held various senior management positions at AT&T Corp., Lucent Technologies, Inc. and Bell Labs, where she successfully launched many high technology products. At Lucent, Ms. Whelan served as the vice president of eBusiness, as well as the company’s vice president of strategic communications and market operations. She received her B.S. in psychology from Saint Peter’s College in 1971.
Andrew J. Whelan – October 21, 2009
Mr. Whelan is a founder of BioElectronics, the maker of inexpensive, drug free, anti-inflammatory medical devices and patches; since April 2000, he has served as the CEO and chairman of its Board of Directors. In 2006, BioElectronics was named Maryland Tech Council Incubator Company of the Year. A seasoned business executive with a strong financial, consulting and management background, Mr. Whelan previously served as the president of P.A. Whelan & Company, Inc. from 1993 until April 2000. Mr. Whelan is also a founder of Drug Counters, Inc., as well as Physicians’ Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., and has served as president of both companies throughout his career. Mr. Whelan received his B.S. in accounting from Saint Peter’s College in 1969.
Joseph R. Gromek – October 28, 2009
Since April 2003, Mr. Gromek has served as president and chief executive officer of Warnaco Group, Inc., a global apparel leader which designs, sources, markets, licenses and distributes a broad line of intimate apparel, sportswear and swimwear worldwide. A member of Warnaco’s Board of Directors, Mr. Gromek has also served as president and chief executive officer of Brooks Brothers, Inc., and has previously held senior management positions with Saks Fifth Avenue, Limited Brands, Inc. and AnnTaylor Stores Corporation. Mr. Gromek is a member of the Board of Directors of Volunteers of America, as well as a board member for Wolverine Worldwide (NYSE), Ronald McDonald House and Trevor Day School. He received his B.S. in history from Saint Peter’s College in 1968.
Offered twice a year, the Executives-in-Residence program was developed by Dr. John J. Hampton, Saint Peter’s KPMG professor of business and director of graduate business programs. He was the executive director of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) from 2000 to 2004, and has been a principle in the Princeton Consulting Group since 1981. Hampton has worked on projects related to strategic planning, risk management and due diligence for diverse clients, such as AT&T, The World Bank, Pacific Fruit, and United Technologies.
Saint Peter’s College is the Jesuit College of New Jersey. Founded in 1872, Saint Peter’s has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. The main campus is located in Jersey City with a branch campus in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, with courses at various corporate sites at the Jersey City waterfront and in South Amboy, NJ.
