10. ABC Eyewitness News Features Summer Tuition Discount
ABC Eyewitness News visited Saint Peter’s College to report on the successful summer discount program. Education Reporter Art McFarland met with Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s College, to learn more about the second summer of discount tuition for students taking more than one class. McFarland interviewed students who came to Saint Peter’s for summer classes, and discovered that in addition to the discount being a welcome benefit for returning Saint Peter’s students, it attracted students from other colleges as well.
9. Men’s Soccer Makes Third NCAA Tournament Appearance
The #1 seeded Saint Peter’s College Peacocks (13-5-1) claimed its second MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship in program history with a 2-1 victory over the #3 seeded Iona College Gaels in the championship match of the 2010 Chick-fil-A MAAC Soccer Championship. This victory secured a spot for the Peacocks in the NCAA College Cup tournament.
8. Regents Business Symposium Breaks Fundraising Record
The College’s Board of Regents welcomed members of the region’s business community to their 39th Annual Regents Business Symposium at the Jersey City Hyatt Regency on the Hudson. This signature annual event of the College gathers industry experts to address a cutting-edge topic in business and serves as a fundraising opportunity for scholarship support and other College initiatives. This year, the event broke all previous sponsorship records and raised a total of $112,345, representing an increase of almost 15 percent compared with the previous record.
7. Saint Peter’s College President Cornacchia Discusses Higher Education with New Jersey Governor Christie
President Cornacchia appeared with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on the public affairs television program, Caucus: New Jersey. 6. Saint Peter Fund Achieves $2 Million Goal
Thanks to the generosity of more than 3,000 donors, Saint Peter’s College ended Fiscal Year 2010 by exceeding its $2 million goal for the Annual Fund, now known as The Saint Peter Fund, a feat that has not been accomplished since Fiscal Year 2001. "It’s very heartening," said Michael A. Fazio, vice president for advancement and external affairs. "We’ve been chasing that $2 million Annual Fund goal for a few years now. Clearly, our alumni and friends see Saint Peter’s College as an investment worth making."
5. Saint Peter’s College Named to President’s Honor Roll for Community Service
In March 2010, Saint Peter’s College was named to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, the highest federal recognition a college or university can receive for its commitment to volunteering, service-learning and civic engagement.
4. Saint Peter’s College Celebrates Jesuit Heritage With First Ignatian Heritage Week
The College held its first Ignatian Heritage Week, a weeklong celebration honoring Saint Peter’s Jesuit heritage and tradition, as well as the historic presence of Jesuits around the world. Organized by students in Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit honor society, the week was a collaboration of performances, films, lectures and presentations that focused on Jesuit identity and principles.
3. Senator Leads Congressmen, Mayor and President in CMST Ribbon Cutting
President Cornacchia, Senator Robert Menendez, Congressmen Steve Rothman and Albio Sires, Mayor of Jersey City Jerramiah T. Healy and John W. Luginsland, Ph.D., program manager of the Plasma and Electro-Energetic Physics program of the Department of Defense’s Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), joined together to officially open the College’s Center for Microplasma Science and Technology (CMST).
2. U.S. News & World Report Releases Best Colleges 2011 Guide
U.S. News & World Report released its Best Colleges 2011 guide, with Saint Peter’s College ranking first among the private colleges throughout New Jersey and the New York metropolitan area in the Least Debt category, as part of the Regional Universities North division. The College was also ranked first among 159 institutions of higher education in the Racial Diversity category and holds a leading spot for Economic Diversity; the College was also among other New Jersey colleges and universities to be included in the Tier 1 group for best overall institution of higher education.
1. Saint Peter’s College Establishes First Doctorate Programs
Saint Peter’s College announced the establishment of the first two doctorate programs in the College’s nearly 140-year history, a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in educational leadership, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (D.N.P.). The post-masters programs began in fall 2010.
