Jersey City, N.J. – On Thursday, April 8, 2010, Saint Peter’s College will celebrate its students, as well as recognize alumni and friends of the College at Hearts & Minds: The Saint Peter’s College Annual Scholarship Dinner. Taking place at The Pleasantdale Chateau in West Orange, New Jersey at 6:30 p.m., the event will honor class of 1972 alumnus Thomas L. Wickiewicz, M.D., as well as Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey and The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey.

Hearts & Minds: The Saint Peter’s College Annual Scholarship Dinner is a celebration honoring alumni and members of the College community, both individuals and organizations, who are models of integrity, leadership and generous service to others. The event supports the College’s general scholarship fund.

Dr. Wickiewicz, who is a renowned surgeon with more than 100 publications to his credit, will receive the “Loyalty to Alma Mater” award. Dr. Wickiewicz currently serves as attending orthopedic surgeon at Hospital for Special Surgery and professor of clinical orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College. Specializing in sports medicine, meniscus surgery, ACL surgery and shoulder surgery, Dr. Wickiewicz has two Super Bowl championship rings as assistant team physician for the New York Giants from 1986 to 1993.

At Saint Peter’s, Dr. Wickiewicz was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999; currently, he also serves as team orthopedist for the College’s Division I teams. Dr. Wickiewicz’s generosity led to the development of the Saint Peter’s athletics weight room, and in 1997, he joined the Saint Peter’s College Board of Regents.

Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (BCBSNJ), the state’s oldest and largest health insurer, will receive the “Corporate Citizen Award.” Serving more than 3.6 million members, Horizon BCBSNJ has been offering quality and affordable health and dental insurance products and services for individuals, families and businesses since 1932.

The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, which will be honored jointly with Horizon BCBSNJ, has awarded over 500 grants totaling nearly $20 million since its inception in 2004. The Foundation makes grants to charitable organizations focused on health and wellness, prevention and education, and the arts. Throughout the years, Horizon BCBSNJ’s support of Saint Peter’s has been directed to the scholarship program, which has helped countless students in a very direct and personal way.

This year, The Infernos provides an opportunity for dancing to music of yesterday and today including big band music, Motown classics, jazz and modern favorites. Performing throughout this country, Europe and the Far East, this outstanding show band has played for governors as well as for the president of the United States, among others. Dominic Furina, Saint Peter’s College class of 2010, will serve as the emcee for the event.
