Saint Peter’s College Launches Health Care Management Program

Jersey City, N.J.
– Saint Peter’s College will launch a concentration in health care management as part of its undergraduate business program in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS), effective with the fall 2010 semester.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 10 of the 20 fastest growing occupations are health care related, with approximately 595,800 health care establishments across the country. The health care industry is also expected to generate 3.2 million new wage and salary jobs between 2008 and 2018, more than any other industry, largely in response to rapid growth in the elderly population.

“The health care industry needs ethical leaders that can effectively manage healthcare organizations,” said Saint Peter’s Vice President for Academic Affairs Marylou Yam, Ph.D., R.N. “In our program, students will gain knowledge of health care systems, financing and organization, as well as explore the legal and ethical dimensions of health care.”

Graduates will also be equipped with communication and leadership skills, and gain proficiency in business management, strategic planning and marketing, among others.

Saint Peter’s recently launched an M.B.A. program with a concentration in health care administration, as well as a joint B.S. program in health information management with the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). “Along with the new health care management concentration, these programs demonstrate Saint Peter’s commitment to educating individuals to manage organizations that will deliver high-quality, cost-effective care,” noted Dr. Yam.
