Saint Peter’s Hosts Joey Travolta’s Short Film Camp

Englewood Cliffs, NJ – The Joey Travolta Short Film Camp will be hosted by Saint Peter’s College at its Englewood Cliffs Campus from Monday, August 2 to Thursday, August 12, 2010. Joey Travolta, an actor, producer, director, writer and teacher, will provide 50 campers with the opportunity to learn the art of filmmaking alongside his professional crew. Camp participants, ages 9 to 23, will create a 30 minute short film and public service announcement for the State of New Jersey and elsewhere about autism awareness.

Travolta, a native of Englewood, New Jersey and older brother to John Travolta, has dedicated his life as a film director and special educator to provide inclusion camp opportunities to children with autism and autism-related developmental disabilities.

Travolta’s film camps are held on college campuses throughout the country. The program is designed to develop self-esteem, confidence and creativity through acting, improvisation and digital filmmaking. The camp is designed to include those with and without special needs; for a career in film, students learn essential skills in a non-competitive environment.

The highly acclaimed inclusion film camp is being produced by MarbleJam Kids, Inc., a non-profit charity dedicated to bringing creative arts enrichment to individuals with autism. The organization has raised funds to supplement the cost of the camp at a reduced rate for all campers. The camp offers a co-creative learning experience, which allows each participant to understand the elements of teamwork and cooperation while creating powerful immediate results.

MarbleJam Kids, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by mothers of children with autism spectrum disorders. The organization provides creative arts therapy and enrichment programs to children with autism spectrum disorders.
