Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s College today announced the appointment of Nicholas A. Chiaravalloti, J.D., to executive director of the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership.
Established in 1994 by Congressman Frank Guarini, the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership at Saint Peter’s College aims to provide a non-partisan forum for discussion of key public policy issues. The Institute sponsors lectures and programs throughout the academic year to promote critical thinking, debate and careers in public service.
“Nicholas is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience in government and consulting,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s College. “His strong commitment to public service along with his desire to encourage our students to pursue careers in this area, make him the ideal candidate to take the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership to the next level.”
Chiaravalloti founded and served as president of his own consulting firm, Chiaravalloti, LLC, and most recently was a partner in Magis Strategies, LLC. In these positions, he provided assistance to clients working with government regulation and policy actions at the local, county, state and federal levels. From 2002-2007, Chiaravalloti served as the state director for the office of United States Senator Robert Menendez ’76. In this role, he oversaw operations to provide constituent services to citizens, businesses, industries, educational and healthcare institutions, and non-profit organizations throughout the State of New Jersey.
In addition, Chiaravalloti has worked with federal regional officials, the Office of the Governor of New Jersey, state agencies and members of the New Jersey congressional delegation on legislative, policy and program matters affecting the state of New Jersey. Locally, he worked for the City of Bayonne as director of policy and planning and for the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority as executive director.
“Nicholas is an experienced and capable leader and will be an incredible asset to Saint Peter’s College,” said former New Jersey Congressman Frank Guarini. “He has demonstrated a wealth of enthusiasm and a deep commitment to re-energizing the programs and mission of the Guarini Institute for Government and Leadership. We are indeed fortunate to have him on board."
Chiaravalloti has served on the Board of Trustees for Holy Family Academy in Bayonne, Saint Peter’s Prep and Hudson Cradle.
He received a bachelor of arts in history from the Catholic University of America, attended the Center for Law and Policy at Oxford University/University of Santa Clara and earned his juris doctorate from Rutgers-Newark School of Law. Chiaravalloti became a member of the New Jersey Bar Association in 1998 and participated in a program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government – Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University. He began his career in public service and federal public policy through an internship with Congressman Frank Guarini in his Washington, D.C. office.
Saint Peter’s College, inspired by its Jesuit, Catholic identity, commitment to individual attention and grounding in the liberal arts, educates a diverse community of learners in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs to excel intellectually, lead ethically, serve compassionately and promote justice in our ever-changing urban and global environment.
