Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Wins MAAC Championship!

Seventy-nine days after the Women’s Indoor Track & Field team won their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in Saint Peter’s history, the Women’s Outdoor Track & Field team took home the MAAC Championship on Sunday on the campus of Rider University. This is the fourth MAAC Championship for Saint Peter’s College for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Finishing with 250 total points, the Peahens finished ahead of last year’s winners, the Manhattan College Jaspers, who came in second place with 224.5 points. Ronnah Parham was named the meet’s most outstanding performer as she set a new MAAC record in winning the 100 meter hurdles. She also won the 400 meter hurdles. Head Coach Mike Massone was named MAAC Coach of the Year for the second time. He was previously named Coach of the Year following the indoor season.

The Peahens earned points in all but five events. MAAC Champions include, Parham in the 100 and 400 hurdles, the 4×100 relay team of Asha Daley, Aigner Holmes, Latasha Green and Stefanny Laureano, Khadeen Issacs in the discus, Cristina Vilsant in the hammer and Sunita Kumar in the javelin. Saint Peter’s also had several second place finishes as, Daley finished second in the 100 meter dash and 100 hurdles, Shona Potrzuski finished second in the 400 hurdles, the 4×400 relay team of Gina Nocerino, Melody Lopez-Bernstein, Laureano and Potrzuski finished second, Issacs took second in the high jump, Renee Brzyski took second in the pole vault, Cherrice Brown took second in the discus and Regina Raglan was second in the hammer.
