Jersey City, N.J. – Saint Peter’s College today announced that this fall a new Higher Education concentration will be available through the College’s School of Education doctorate program. This concentration will prepare doctoral students for careers in higher education administration and leadership. Through this course of study, current administrators, educational leaders and faculty will be able to take on senior post-secondary roles in community colleges, liberal arts colleges, as well as teaching and research universities.
“Practicing and aspiring higher education professionals have the ability to take their careers to the next level with the Ed.D. program in Higher Education,” said Mildred Mihlon, Ph.D., associate vice president of academic affairs and assessment, at Saint Peter’s College. “The flexible, partially online course schedule consists of a curriculum based on theory and practice, and provides students with the insights necessary to develop and execute strategic planning to achieve positive institutional change.”
The College is introducing the Higher Education concentration given the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics prediction that employment of education administrators is expected to grow in the coming years due to the accelerated increase in the number of students at the postsecondary level. In particular, a greater number of administrators will be needed to manage non-traditional adult populations or schools that allow students to receive job-specific training or update their skills in a convenient manner.
The 48 credit Ed.D. program in Higher Education will be based out of the Englewood Cliffs campus, which is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the George Washington Bridge. Classes will be offered partially online and on weeknights or weekends, including the summer, to accommodate the needs of working adults. The program consists of core and specialized courses as well as a dissertation.
Higher Education concentration courses will cover subjects such as history and trends in higher education, curriculum development and instruction, student development and programming, accountability, assessment, accreditation and institutional research, technology for administrators and more. Students graduating from the program will be qualified for a variety of administrative and executive roles within a college or university setting.
