Jersey City, N.J. – September 10, 2019 – Saint Peter’s University is proud to announce that it was ranked highest in the state of New Jersey and 19th overall for social mobility in the Regional Universities North category of the 2020 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Rankings. The University also remains among the top 100 “Best Regional Universities in the North.”
U.S. News & World Report utilizes 15 measures of academic quality, including retention and graduation rates, faculty data and the admissions profile to create its rankings. Social mobility is a new assessment, added this year, to the annual rankings. It measures a college’s success in the upward socio-economic movement of students by enrolling and graduating students awarded federal grants. This assessment recognizes Saint Peter’s commitment to access and equity as well as to student success and degree completion.
“Being in the business of higher education, we recognize the power of a college degree for future success,” said Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., president of Saint Peter’s University. “Unfortunately, the path to a degree is not as accessible for every student. Our focus has been not only on accessibility, but also outcomes. Saint Peter’s has been consistently recognized for our efforts in upward mobility and we applaud U.S. News & World Report for including this highly important measure in their annual rankings.”
U.S. News & World Report defines a regional university as one that provides a full-range of undergraduate programs and master’s programs, but few doctoral programs. The North Regional University category includes institutions of this nature in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington D.C.
